Competition:

THE COMPETITION HAS NOW CLOSED. THE WINNER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.

This is an opportunity for an as yet UNPUBLISHED writer to win a free week* (six nights commencing August 29th) at Inspire. This includes your room, all your food and drink, and close discussion of your work with Marcus Sedgwick.

In addition, the winning writer will have an extract of their work read by leading literary agent Claire Wilson, of Rogers, Coleridge and White.

The week includes all your food and drink, your room, and close discussion of your work with Marcus. Your only cost will be in getting yourself to and from Bergerac, France. (Cheap flights are available from London Stansted.)

To enter, you need to do both of the following:

1: follow @inspire_ms on Instagram, and/or @marcussedgwick on Twitter, and retweet/share the post that brought you to this page about the competition.

2: submit a (strictly-enforced) 2000-word maximum extract from a work in progress, preferably the opening, using the form below. Use the message field to explain a little about your writing experience and goals (there are no wrong answers here, it’s simply to get an idea of where you are in your writing journey.)

IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THESE CONDITIONS YOUR ENTRY WILL BE REJECTED REGARDLESS OF ITS MERIT.

A winner will then be selected to join other writers on retreat, for the week commencing August 29th. See DATES for more information on that. The winner will be notified by email soon after the closing date of the competition, which is June 4th. Absolutely no discussion about submissions will be entered into.

* Please read the following carefully:

To be eligible for this competition, you must not have been published, to date, in a ‘traditional’ publishing model – self-published writers will be considered. If you have been published in an anthology for no fee, you can submit work for the competition. All costs of your week (unless you decide to eat out, for example) are covered once you arrive at Bergerac – you just need to get yourself to Bergerac airport or train station, and you will be collected and brought to the house where the retreats happen. The closing date for submissions is midnight (CET) on June 4th. Submissions over 2,000 words will not be read. You can submit in txt, pdf, doc or docx formats ONLY. A winner will be chosen, to join other writers on retreat, for Retreat Four, the week commencing August 29th. See DATES for more information on that. The winner will be notified by email soon after the closing date of the competition, June 4th. Absolutely no discussion about submissions (other than the winning one!) will be entered into. By submitting this form you agree to these terms.
